The GLC in Second Life work hard to raise money for the organisation Relay For Life. One of the most recent events was a personal favourite of this blogger and a big success for the cause so it looks like it was a win win.
The GLC held a build blitz! just the name is exciting without even having to worry about the details involved. The theme for the event was a fitting summer theme, focussing mostly around beaches and who could blame them with summer here that’s all anyone can think about right.
Before even the first prim was set down it was obvious this event was set for good times and great moves with one of the most handsome and talented of the lanterns deciding to bust a move to keep the contestants entertained.
Beautiful
The build blitz was put in three sections the first was sandcastles a fun round that saw many of the contestants come up with a unique take on sandcastles. The pictures below show the full field of the build blitz and the different things being built by the lanterns and other contestants involved. Most unique of which was the Brazilian Lanterns ….just check the pictures to see. The second of the three rounds involved the building of nautical vehicles and the rookie to the corps Kitani built a very unique nautical vehicle. It was a shark with a saddle, it’s every young lanterns dream.
The third and final of the rounds was to build a full beach scene and it saw the GLC’s own lantern Wolfy building an aquarium scene of a beach. There was a collection of unique builds all of which that can be seen below, it was a great event.
As well as the fun and truly original creations of the lanterns involved the cause, which was the relay for life group, gained a large increase in funds for its important and noble of causes.
All the judges enjoyed looking over the builds involved in the blitz and it gave the contestants a chance to show off their builds as well as challenge their own building skills. Everyone enjoyed the event and although a couple of contestants had to leave early due to first life interference it was promised the event would be a regular feature of the future.
When the next building blitz will be held is unknown at this time but considering the unique, and sometimes weird, constructs of those involved this is definitely a truly original and interesting event to be part of even if it is spectating. The relay for life is as always the true winner of these events but everyone involved enjoyed this blitz and it can only be hoped that this will continue in the future. A lot can be said for the contestants because although a winner is chosen all they really win is bragging rights about their victory. All funds taken even those collected from the builders own personal donation vendor go straight to Relay for Life, this particular event managed to collect over 8000 Linden Dollars for the relay for life group!
More events of similar quality are scheduled for the future and this blogger looks forward to being part of them in the future.
