The annual luau of the GLC was held in Mogo today and it was a pretty eventful night. Everyone expected the usual things from a beach filled party, booze, sand, things burning on a BBQ and of course girls in bikinis well this had all of that and a DJ so the luau was definitely on top form tonight!
A sight to behold anyone can agree, it’s not often these ladies are seen hula dancing their way around Mogo in little more than a bikini ….ok so that never happens but you see the point. Perhaps the next event for raising money could be a lantern calendar, it seems the GLC is full of all kind of beauties.
We laughed we cried we enjoyed the sweet Hawaiian tunes that seemed to captivate the lanterns into taking to the sands for dancing and good times but who can blame them. With a pig on the roast, a collection of sweet tasty burgers filling the air with sizzles and delicious scents all to be enjoyed with the popular brand of Tropica beer. Ok so not popular but we had a theme to keep up with.
Amidst the fun and frolics of the sand getting between peoples toes and the short tries on a surfboard by all the lanterns willing to get their toes wet and make a splash, a charitable side shone from the lanterns.
Ever eager to beat their own targets and help relay for life in their important cause the donation vendors emerged with everyone giving what they could to help smash the target. Our very own ION Ceri and the ever popular Cathy went so far as to empty their pockets in an attempt to push the last part of the donations to finally reaching their goal. It was close and looked like the goal would go painfully close to being reached until one of the lanterns donated a needed sum of 1800L$!
That’s right even on their day off the Lanterns took time to give what they could to help out the charities they give so much of their time to help out as best they can. Tonight’s Luau raised spirits, good times and helped the Lanterns for Life team get 400000L$ for the relay for life! that number is ever changing and always on the increase so to find out how the GLC or any other of the RFL teams are doing check it out here!
Who wouldn’t celebrate after something like that? That’s right folks were on the beach and we just found a reason to celebrate that means it’s conga time! In all seriousness though the events of the night showed the lanterns really do enjoy giving for a good cause tonight was a night off to relax and have fun but these dedicated conga goers dug deep and set up a vendor to give more than most would have. It’s thanks to the lanterns the relay have that little more cash in their wallets to hopefully find a cure.
The lanterns take a night off to laugh as friends and family before it’s back to the meeting hall to plan events and think of new ways to help these great organisations both in and out of second life.
Time to grab a seat and enjoy a nice cool drink of …Tropica beer.
