Rise of the Manhunters

All fans of cosmic jewelry and intergalactic heroics will be very happy with the new 'Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters' game. The game is available for:

Wii - $39.99
Playstation 3 - $59.99
X-Box 360 - $56.99

The game takes place shortly after the events of the new 'Green Lantern' movie coming to theaters June 17th. It's a very good time to be a Green Lantern fan, and if the game is any indication of the quality of the movie, you are in for a treat.

The Manhunters are an android race, originally created by the Guardians of the Universe to serve as the first interstellar police force. The Manhunters became more obsessed with administering punishment than serving justice, forcing the Guardians to dissolve their ranks. The few Manhunters that survived fled into exile and the Guardians founded a new elite police force called the Green Lantern Corps and armed its members with specially crafted power rings. Now the Manhunters are back and out for revenge, readying their forces for a war against the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps.

Rise of the Manhunters offers three separate modes of play.

Master the Ring - Wield the Green Lantern Power Ring to create a spectacular range of "hard-light" constructs including a gatling gun, giant fists, and much more, all of which can be linked together to form an endless number of combinations.

Stand Together - Join forces with a friend to play as Hal Jordan or Sinestro to battle the Manhunters, with the ability to drop in or out at will.

Take Flight - Dodge, blast, and destroy legions of enemies as you soar across the universe in battles of intergalactic scope.

Each game play mode offers a lot of fun and unique ways of playing through the 10 incredibly detailed levels. Single player mode allows you to play as Hal Jordan and travel to three separate worlds, Oa, Zamora and Biot. As you play through each stage you unlock more and powerful constructs and upgrades for your ring allowing you to access items as simple as a sword to more complex constructs such as giant roving mechanical suits of death.

Co-op mode allows Hal and Sinestro to team up and play through the levels together. This is especially fun for playing a game of catch and tossing a Manhunter back and forth before batting it off a cliffside. One major drawback to multi-player mode is the flight levels. The already small and somewhat difficult to manage flight levels are crowded by another player. Luckily their are only a few flight levels to play through.

No game is perfect, but Green Lantern is really a gem. The camera work is sometimes a little difficult to manage through, and seems to be placed a little to far back sometimes, but the amazing intelligent targeting system makes up for most of it. The targeting system does have a small hiccup when playing co-op mode, you and your team mate tend to prefer to throw objects to your partner to catch, this can have a bad outcome when trying to toss bombs at an enemy.

Overall, I highly recommend this game for anyone who is a fan of Green Lantern, you will find many hours of enjoyment out of the game play, performing combo after combo of green war hammer and sword attacks. If you are not a Green Lantern fan, it still makes for a great action packed adventure game. If you have played the game, leave a comment and tell me what you think below.
